Maintenance
Exercise – The Boxer is generally an energetic and playful pet. The Canadian Kennel Club (2014) states that “regular outdoor exercise should be part of the daily regime.” Young Boxers may also appreciate toys such as ropes and balls to stimulate their playful minds.
Grooming - The Boxer coat is short and easy to maintain. A brush once a week will maintain the coat as well as occasional bathing with special attention to the face wrinkles while cleaning.
Affection and Attention – The Boxer will do well with families and children. They appreciate attention and affection from their owners but should remain in an obedient and submissive state. As worker dogs, the Boxer loves to please and has a considerable amount of patience to display in social situations.
Feeding – Spitzer (2006) states that Boxer puppies should be fed four meals per day. When fully grown, Boxers should still be fed twice a day; in the morning and at night. Frequent feeding helps to avoid bloat (the distending and rotation of the stomach which can be life-threatening to dogs). It is also recommended that owners do research on the ingredients in the kibble or food which they buy for their pet as some ingredients promote health and wellness more efficiently than others.
